BAFA 2017 Annual Conference

We invite you to take part and contribute to an interactive discussion on Monday 10 April at 5pm that will bring together over 200 academics, business leaders and accounting practitioners.

We are delighted to be working with the British Accounting and Finance Association at the 2017 Annual Conference in Edinburgh. We see this as a unique opportunity to engage academics and practitioners in a dialogue on the future of accounting education.

Our aspiration for the conference this year is to facilitate a different conversation – to broaden the discussion on the role of BAFA in the future of the profession and to draw deeper links between research, teaching, policy and practice. To do that, we are building on the traditionally strong academic focus of the conference and we are infusing ideas and approaches from the successful AuditFutures initiatives.

We hope to construct a holistic narrative on our vision for the future of education and reflect on how policy, academia and practice interact. There will be a number of activities, including workshops, presentations, pop-up discussions, and informal conversations around the key themes that we are exploring:

  • What is our vision for the future? What are our own motivations and aspirations and what are the challenges and trends that will shape the road ahead? What are the big questions and disruptive ideas that we need to be thinking about?
  • What are the competencies and qualities of the future professionals? How to educate for the future skills and capacities that professionals would need? How do we foster virtuous character and motivation in students?
  • How might we design a curriculum to embed values and vision? How do we design for a holistic environment for learning? How do we integrate innovative approaches and methods in the curriculum?
  • How do we make research matter more? How do we integrate research into policy and practice? How do we make academia, policy and practice more responsive to each other?
